Recommended Action

Whereas the year 2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands;

 

Whereas the Canadian Tulip Festival, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the National Capital Commission are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands with the bright orange “Liberation 75” Tulip and have set a goal of planting 1.1 million “Liberation 75” Tulips in honour of the 1.1 million Canadians who served during the Second World War;

 

Whereas Langley residents fought with the Canadian troops in
World War II and Canadian troops were instrumental in the liberation of the Netherlands; and

 

Whereas there are Township of Langley residents of Netherlands birth and descent;

 

Therefore Council directs staff to obtain “Liberation 75” Tulips; and

 

That staff be directed that the tulip bulbs be planted at the
Derek Doubleday Arboretum in a dedication event to be organized in the fall of 2019 in order that the “Liberation 75” Tulips will bloom in the spring of 2020 in time for the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands.
